Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary


The cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary spreads more than 160 acres square miles of rugged gullies and steep slopes all carpeted by rain forest. Established in 1990 as the world's first jaguar reserve, the Sanctuary is home to an abundance of wildlife, including all five species of wildcats - jaguar, puma ocelot, margay, and jaguarundi. an extensive trail system leads to  hidden waterfalls along a tropical river and past spectacular "kaway swamps" where more than 290 species of birds been recorded.
